A woman in Suffolk is facing more than 121 animal cruelty charges. Thirty-three year-old Ashley Brinkley was arrested April 6th. Suffolk Animal Control seized 19 dogs, 11 puppies, 15 cats, and two kittens at her animal rescue. Police say the animal cruelty charges stem from evidence of animal torture, inadequate food and water at the rescue, and not having adequate space for exercise and care of the animals. Brinkley is expected back in court tomorrow.
A researcher from the University of Virginia has received a big award to study treatments for breast cancer. Dr. Natasha Sheybani has been given five-point-five million dollars to study how Focused Ultrasound waves can be used to treat the cancer. Dr. Sheybani says the research will be done on women who currently have breast cancer as well as cancer survivors.
