Governor Youngkin is responding after pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses across Virginia. On social media, he says his administration will continue to fully support campus, local and state law enforcement to keep campuses safe.
There were some protests over the weekend at Virginia Tech and other locations.
Yesterday, a protest at VCU resulted in several arrests and police deploying chemical agents. The labor union representing many VCU employees called it a "display of police brutality."
The protesters had also set up encampments in what they called their "Liberation Zone" calling form VCU to divest all ties with Israel and advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza.
A driver has died after trying to enter Joint Expeditionary Base-Little Creek in Virginia Beach. The driver attempted to drive through Gate 5 at a high speed. Security personnel activated the hydraulic access control system to try and stop the car. It caused the vehicle to crash into a barrier and catch fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating the incident.
