The Norfolk mother accused in the death of her infant was denied bond today. WAVY-TV reports that 21-year-old Z'ibreaya Parker will remain behind bars until a July preliminary hearing. Parker and 23-year-old Hilary Johnson Jr. are both charged with child abuse after their child died nine days after birth. It was found the child had severe injuries including broken ribs and blunt force trauma to the head. Johnson had a bond hearing withdrawn and will also have a preliminary hearing in July.
A man who rented a U-Haul truck in Virginia and then crashed into barriers at the White House has pleaded guilty to damaging government property. Twenty-year-old Sai Kandula entered his plea in U.S. District Court. Investigators say Kandula flew from Missouri to DC, rented the truck in Herndon and then drove it into barriers around the White House last May. He reportedly pulled a Nazi flag from his backpack and told investigators that he planned "seize power and be put in charge of the nation. He will face a prison term of up to ten years when sentenced in August.
Residents in one of Virginia's historically black neighborhoods will soon see a lot of changes after a mass rezoning is approved. Rebecca Hughes with more.Preview: Residents in several Arlington neighborhoods have reported seeing a black bear walking around. They're saying the bear has been seen climbing fences and knocking down bird feeders. The Animal Welfare League of Arlington says the bear is a juvenile male and is warning residents not to approach it. They say they plan to leave the bear alone and let him make his way out of the county.
