Officials at Virginia State University are expressing disappointment over the decision to skip a debate that would have been held on the campus. President Biden and former President Trump announced an agreement yesterday to hold a debate next month and another in September. That decision will scuttle plans for three presidential debates this fall, including an October 1st meeting at VSU. Senator Tim Kaine and Attorney General Jason Miyares both disapproved, saying the VSU debate should go forward as planned in what would have made the first presidential debate ever held at a historically Black college or university.  
 
 
A boat rented by a now missing woman in Louisa County has been found abandoned. WRIC reports that the boat, matching the description of the one rented by Maya Olivia Smith May 11th was found in Lake Anna. Some of Smith's belongings were also found in the boat. At this point authorities don't suspect any foul play and the search for Smith continues. Anyone with information on her whereabouts should call the Louisa County Sheriff's Office.  
 
 
Two cities in Virginia are getting millions in state funds to fight gun violence. The cities of Portsmouth and Norfolk will be getting around three-million dollars to support street outreach, violence intervention programs, afterschool programs, and education and job opportunities. The funds will be given to two programs, the Firearm Violence Intervention and Prevention Fund and the Safer Communities Program. The two cities where specifically named for having disproportionate firearm-related homicides compared to their populations.
