Threatening emails are being investigated after being sent to Newport News and Gloucester Public Schools this morning. A school spokesperson tells WAVY-TV that out of an abundance of caution, the police department and school security have increased patrols at all schools.
Pepper spray had to be used at Varina (Vah-Rye-Nuh) High School in Henrico County yesterday after a fight broke out. Henrico County Police say a large group of students were involved and resources officers used pepper spray on the students to try and break up the fight. Some students were treated after the pepper spray, others were treated for minor injuries sustained during the fight. The investigation contiunes.
While many universities across the country have cancelled graduation ceremonies due to security risks, Virginia Tech's graduation is happening as scheduled. Rocio Rivera has details.Preview: A big change is coming to Randolph-Macon College. President Robert Lindgren announced he plans to retire. It'll take effect at the end of the 2024-2025 academic year after 19 years in charge. In that time, the school added 13 academic programs and majors. The school says enrollment under Lindgren grew by 30 percent. There's also been 17 new or renovated buildings on the Ashland campus during his time in charge. Lindgren says it has been a profound honor to serve and be part of the Randolph-Macon community. The Board of Trustees says it is forming a committee to begin the search for a new president.
