The Boar's Head plant in Jarratt is closing indefinitely. The company issued a statement today following contaminated deli meat leading to listeria. At least nine people died and dozens others have been hospitalized across the U.S. The company called it a "dark moment" in their history and said the Jarratt plant will close indefinitely. They will also permanently discontinue liverwurst.

A football game between two high schools in Newport News is postponed after a student was shot and killed at a school bus stop this week. Menchville and Bethel High Schools decided to postpone their game and a new date for the game has not been announced. The 15-year-old is a student at Menchville High and was shot and killed Tuesday morning. Newport News Police say no suspect has been identified yet.

New census data is showing the poverty rate in Virginia is trending lower than the rest of the country. The American Community Survey shows the state's overall poverty rate was ten-point-two percent last year. That's two points lower than the national rate. Virginia's poverty rate has been on the downswing since 2017. State officials say federal and state anti-poverty measures, like the expanded child tax credit, are helping the state's residents who are most in need.
