Wesley Shiflett sentenced Friday for shooting 37 yr old Timothy Johnson in 2023. Johnson's mother Melissa Johnson saying.....Preview: Shiflett was sentenced to three years in prison on Friday. The governor announced his decision yesterday, calling the sentence unjust. Shiflett's lawyer says his client is considering an appeal of his conviction.
The board of visitors at Virginia Military Institute will not be extending the contract of its first Black superintendent. The board decided Friday to let the contract of retired Major General Cedric Wins expire at the end of June. Wins became superintendent in 2020 amid an investigation into racism and sexism at VMI. He received praise for improving the culture at the military college, but has also faced criticism from alumni opposed to recent policy changes at VMI.
