A Newport News man is facing multiple charges after trying to escape arrest by climbing into the ceiling of a hospital. Thirty-three-year-old Robert Lee Manny was taken into custody yesterday after state troopers stopped a stolen vehicle in York County. Manny was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center for evaluation and reportedly told a trooper he needed to go to the bathroom. Investigators say Manny climbed through the ceiling tiles in the bathroom to try to escape. The hospital was placed on lockdown and Manny was found a short time later. Charges against Manny include felony hit-and-run, felony eluding, drug possession and assault on a law enforcement officer.
