Richmond's Police Chief was pulled over for speeding, going 61 mph in a 35 mph zone while driving to a work-related meeting. Chief Rick Edwards asked the officer to issue him a summons and shared the incident during the department's annual crime briefing. He emphasized the importance of slowing down and taking responsibility for his actions, wanting to address the issue himself.  
 
 
A Democratic proposal to increase the state's minimum wage to 15 dollars an hour is moving forward in the House of Delegates. The Labor and Commerce Committee voted 11-9 to advance the measure, sending it to the House Appropriations Committee for further review. The bill would increase Virginia's minimum wage to 13-50 an hour next year and 15 dollars an hour in 2027.  
 
 
Virginia raised car insurance minimums this year in response to legislative amendments passed in 2021.

President Biden continues to use divisive rhetoric. During a taped interview Thursday with MSNBC, the outgoing president made claims that Republican-led states did a poor job in handling their economies during the COVID pandemic and that Democrats could have done better at selling their accomplishments to voters. Biden said red states "really screwed up" when it came to how they handled manufacturing and supply chains. Biden touted infrastructure investment but said he almost spent too much time on policy instead of politics.
