U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff says that more Virginia veterans are now eligible for VA healthcare.Preview: Virginia's attorney general has announced a multi-billion-dollar settlement with Purdue Pharma. Attorney General Jason Miyares says members of the Sackler family will pay up to six-point-five-billion dollars, while Purdue Pharma will also pay nearly 900-million as part of the multistate settlement. Virginia filed suit against the company in 2018, accusing it of playing a leading role in the opioid crisis. The suit was amended in 2019 to include the Sackler family. Virginia would receive just over 107-million dollars over 15 years as part of the settlement.
Next week could be a crucial one for a Henrico County company in its fight with state lawmakers. The state senate's finance committee will meet next week to discuss a bill targeting Rosie's Gaming Emporium. Churchill Downs owns the business, and they have been criticized for using a loophole to try and open a location in the Staples Mill Shopping Center without having to hold a public referendum. Henrico State Senator Schuyler VanValkenburg introduced SB 1223 that would require Churchill Downs to hold a public referendum or pay more in taxes. Henrico Board of Supervisors Chairman Dan Schmitt tells 8News he doesn't understand why the company would refuse to hear from the people they're intending to serve.
