A federal judge has ordered a Virginia man to remain in jail after more than 100 explosive devices were found in his home. Thirty-six-year-old Brad Spafford was arrested last month in Isle of Wight County on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm. Investigators found more than 150 homemade explosive devices during a search of his home. The FBI called it the largest cache of finished explosive devices ever found. A judge ordered Spafford held without bond on Tuesday, saying his involvement with explosives presented a danger to the community.
Several Virginians are still in the dark after a winter storm took out the power earlier this week. The International Longshoreman's Association has tentatively agreed to a new six-year contract, averting a possible strike. The union announced the strike in October, but agreed to suspend it for 90 days for further negotiations with the U.S. Maritime Alliance. The agreement announced yesterday will avert a possible shutdown of ports on the East and West coasts. The union will continue operating under the current contract while details are reviewed and a final vote is taken.
