Some people are trying to make a drag queen part of the U.S. Senate race in Virginia.Preview: A former Fairfax County police officer has been found not guilty of involuntary manslaughter for a deadly shooting that happened last year. The jury in the trial of Wesley Shifflett returned a split verdict on Friday. While acquitting him of the charge, the jury did find the former officer guilty of reckless handling of a weapon in the death of Timothy Johnson. Shifflett said during the trial that he thought the unarmed shoplifting suspect was reaching for a gun when the former officer shot him last year. Shifflett will be sentenced in February.
A Richmond man is facing federal charges after allegedly defacing a monument in Washington, D.C. Twenty-six-year-old Zaid Mohammed Mahdawi was arrested Friday and charged with destruction of government property. Investigators say Mahdawi spray painted graffiti on a monument in Columbus Circle near Union Station in July. Mahdawi was shown standing on the monument in photos posted to social media and he was later identified through a tip to law enforcement. A date for his next court appearance was not announced.
On the anniversary of the October 7th attack on Israel, Senator Mark Kelly is urging Arab-American voters to cast a ballot for Kamala Harris. Appearing on CNN's "State of the Union," the Arizona Democrat insisted Harris is committed to ending the war in Gaza that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians.
