The Joint Legislative and Audit Committee released a report yesterday saying data centers have several benefits but may drive up electric prices for consumers statewide. That's because utilities will need new power plants and transmission lines to meet data center demand, with costs for that construction being passed on to all electric customers. State lawmakers are expected to consider several bills addressing concerns about data center growth during the next session of the General Assembly.
Just over three-and-a-half-million-dollars in traffic projects are going to be completed by the Virginia Department of Transportation across Richmond. Those initiatives include the installation of high-visibility plates to see lights at over 30 intersections, raised crossings and infrastructure to prevent corner-cutting. Pavement markings will also be placed at more than 80-intersections.
With holiday shopping forecasted to reach a historic high this year, the same is to be said for purchase returns. A new report by the National Retail Federation and return management company Happy Returns expects this years returns to reach 17-percent of all merchandise sales, making for 890-billion-dollars in returned products. The federation also discovered that returns hit an annual high during the holidays.
