A man shot during a struggle with Arlington police officers earlier this week has died from his injuries. Officers began looking for the unidentified man on Tuesday after he allegedly pulled out a knife at a grocery store after telling store workers he wanted food but wouldn't pay for it. Arlington Police spokesperson Ashley Savage tells News4 Washington he was later found on the upper level of the Rosslyn Metro Station.

The police department confirmed yesterday that he died from his injuries after he was taken to the hospital. The shooting is still under investigation.  
 
 
A Virginia Commonwealth Police Safety Ambassador is being honored for how she responded after a mass shooting last year. A student and his stepfather were killed and several others were injured when shots were fired during graduation for Huguenot High School at the Altria Theatre. An unarmed Denise Smith was working in the adjacent parking deck, where she was calmly able to keep the suspected shooter close by. VCU police gave her a Valor Award yesterday.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing protections for the monarch butterfly. The western population has declined 95 percent while the eastern population has declined by 80 percent. Fish and Wildlife is encouraging the public to be part of the recovery. Public comments can be made on the proposal through March 12, 2025.
