Another storm is heading toward Virginia and could cause flash flooding in parts of the state. Governor Youngkin warned Virginians yesterday that the storm will bring heavy rain to the state, increasing the potential for floods, power outages and other damage. The governor is extending the current state of emergency and moving resources to vulnerable areas, especially in southwest Virginia. Swift water rescue crews, Virginia National Guard troops and state-owned helicopters are being moved into place to respond to weather-related emergencies.
Drivers in the Norfolk area are being targeted by scam texts claiming they owe an outstanding balance on their E-ZPass or other toll facility. The messages threaten fines if the balance is not paid by a certain time, according to 13News Now. The Virginia Department of Transportation is aware of the scam and advises drivers not to click on any links in suspicious texts and to report them to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center.
