Governor Youngkin is asking President Trump for aid following a pair of winter storms that rolled through Virginia last week. The governor announced his request for an Expedited Major Disaster Declaration yesterday. The governor pointed out that areas still recovering from Hurricane Helene were hit particularly hard by the storms. More than seven inches of rain fell in some parts of southwest Virginia, leading to significant flash flooding, road closures, washouts and infrastructure damage.
Flooding could be an issue in parts of Richmond. The National Weather Service has a Flood Warning in effect for the James River at Richmond Locks, Richmond Westham and Cartersville until further notice. Moderate flooding is expected. The NWS says the flood stage is eight feet, and the river is expected to rise to a crest of over 14-and-a-half feet late tomorrow morning.
