Two Virginia Beach police officers are dead following a shooting during a traffic stop. Investigators say Officers Cameron Girvin and Cristopher Reese pulled over a suspect on Friday night for having an expired license plate. The driver reportedly argued with officers, then pulled out a pistol and shot them both multiple times. The driver, 42-year-old John McCoy the Third, was later found dead from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Virginia Beach Police Foundation is accepting donations to help the families of the two officers.
A Richmond doctor is encouraged by a possible breakthrough in pain management. Last month, the FDA approved a new pain medicine called Journavx. It's the first non-opioid prescription drug for moderate to severe acute pain the FDA has approved in over two decades. Dr. Hamid Akbarali is a pharmacology and toxicology professor at VCU. He says the hope is that it'll reduce pain without causing addiction.
