Two Virginia parents are facing charges after leaving their 12-year-old child home alone. A school in Prince William County contacted police earlier this month after learning that the child's parents were out of town. They went to the child's home and found he had been left there alone for five days. The parents have been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The state Department of Workforce Development says just over four thousand new unemployment claims were filed during the first full week of March. That was 40 percent higher than the week before and 81 percent higher than the same week last year. Many of those claims were from former federal employees who worked in Virginia.
