The city's Department of Emergency Communications and the Richmond Ambulance Authority each want the responsibility. Each released reports to the city council's Public Safety Committee yesterday. The DEC has been fielding 911 calls since last summer, and they claim response times have been quicker. The RAA, though, says it's more qualified to handle medical emergencies. Committee members weren't satisfied with the reports they got from the DEC and RAA. 12 On Your Side reports the agencies were asked to return next month with more information.
Virginia's attorney general wants Virginians to know their rights following the bankruptcy of DNA testing company 23andMe. Attorney General Jason Miyares says Virginians have the right to ask the company to delete genetic data and destroy biological samples under a state law passed in 2023. The company is not allowed to sell or transfer that data and must comply within 30 days. Anyone who fails to get a timely response can file a complaint with the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division.
