The governor is removing a member of the University of Virginia's Board of Visitors. Governor Youngkin sent a letter to board member Bert Ellis yesterday informing him of the action. The short letter said Ellis' conduct had violated the code of conduct for boards and commissions on many occasions. Ellis has been on the board since 2022. Youngkin reportedly plans to appoint former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli to the UVA board.  
 
 
A nonprofit plans to renovate a facility to offer a new spot for cultural experiences in the Smith Mountain Lake community. Located at the Westlake Cinema, the project is a joint effort between three groups - the Westlake Cinema, the Smith Mountain Lake Center, and the Willard Family. Smith Mountain Lake Center Board President, Matt Karris, tells WSET his excitement about the plan.

The new Smith Mountain Lake Center will continue to show movies, but will also offer festivals and live entertainment as well as classrooms for higher education learning, and a studio for things like dance and fly fishing. The groups are raising money for the development now and plan to start renovations in 2026.
