Many question the validity of these numbers after multiple companies admitted to posting ghost jobs - which are job postings that appear online but are not actively available that companies use to build a candidate pool, project growth, or test the job market, without any immediate intention to hire. In 2024, a study suggested as many as 1 in 5 job listings are ghost jobs.
