A former Fairfax County school teacher has been accused of assaulting a student and another teacher. Police began investigating last month after Child Protective Services was informed of an assault on a student at Parklawn Elementary School. Investigators said 63-year-old Mary Simons assaulted the student and a colleague in separate incidents. Simons reportedly retired from her teaching position during the investigation. She turned herself in on Monday and was charged with two counts of simple assault.
Virginia lieutenant governor candidate John Reid is threatening legal action against members of the Republican Party. Lawyers for Reid sent a cease and desist order to the head of Governor Youngkin's Spirit of Virginia political action Committee on Monday. The letter accuses Matt Moran of making false statements about Reid to try to get him to drop out of the race. Moran was also accused of providing information to several news organizations linking Reid to a social media account containing explicit images. Moran has refused to comment, while Reid says he has no plans to end his campaign.

It's a budget reconciliation measure that would implement much of his spending agenda. The bill would extend the 2017 tax cuts, and keep Trumps' promises to expand them. House Speaker Mike Johnson is hopeful the House will pass the bill by Memorial Day.
