Authorities say there were no injuries after a cockpit door fell off a small plane in Loudoun County over the weekend. The pilot was flying in the Round Hill area near the West Virginia border when the door was reportedly ripped off the plane Saturday morning. The pilot landed safely a short time later at Leesburg Executive Airport. He was the only person aboard the two-seat aircraft. The Virginia State Police were trying to locate the white and maroon door over the weekend.
The TSA says a recent discovery at Dulles International Airport shows why travelers have their shoes inspected before boarding an aircraft. A traveler was stopped on March 30th after inspectors found a utility knife blade inside a flip-flop. The TSA says the traveler was not allowed to bring the blade through security, though they would have been able to continue their flight.
