Henrico County may put restrictions on where data centers can operate. The county's Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission will meet today. They'll discuss limiting data centers to a special focus area around Technology Boulevard and the White Oak Technology Park. Officials tell 12 On Your Side they have gotten complaints the data centers are too noisy.
The CDC reports that drug overdose deaths are declining in the U.S., with a significant drop in Virginia.Preview: A Veterans Affairs clinic in Lynchburg has a new name. The clinic on Lakeside Drive was renamed for Private First Class Desmond T. Doss yesterday. The Lynchburg native refused to carry a weapon during World War Two due to his religious beliefs, but managed to save the lives of dozens of soldiers by working as a combat medic. Doss was later awarded the Medal of Honor and was profiled in the movie "Hacksaw Ridge." His son said Doss would have enjoyed knowing that his name was being placed on a medical center, since he was primarily known for being a healer.
A Republican-backed bill proposing new tax cuts has advanced in the House. The bill aims to extend the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act provisions to prevent tax increases for most taxpayers. CBS News reports additional tax cuts in the bill include benefits for senior citizens, parents, and small businesses. Democratic lawmakers have raised concerns about proposed cuts to Medicaid and food stamps.
