A Petersburg man is being remembered for his profound contributions to the city and beyond. That's what Mayor Sam Parham said yesterday about Colonel Porcher Taylor, Jr. The former Tuskegee Airman died yesterday at the age of 99. He served in World War Two, Korea and Vietnam. Taylor earned the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. After he left the military, he got a PhD in psychology and worked at Virginia State University as a professor and administrator. VSU wrote on Facebook he was a valued member of the Trojan family, and they'll continue to honor his legacy. Taylor leaves behind his wife, Ann. Mayor Parham says Taylor's endless contributions made Petersburg a better place for all.
