Activists are trying to put an end to violence in Hampton Roads.Preview: Police are doing their best to get unsafe drivers off the roads in Fairfax County. The police department released a video yesterday of an arrest that was part of the "Road Shark" safety initiative. Officers clocked a driver on the Dulles Toll Road going at least 117 miles-an-hour last week. After he was pulled over, officers found that the license plates on the white sports car were fake, though the car itself wasn't stolen. Twenty-seven-year-old Sagar Govani of Leesburg was arrested for reckless driving and displaying altered or fictitious plates.
The Metro Richmond Zoo is celebrating what it calls a crowning milestone. They announced yesterday their new animal hospital has opened, and all facilities destroyed in last year's fire are now rebuilt and operational. The hospital includes a treatment area, surgery room, animal holding and quarantine spaces, offices and a new lab. Also, zoo officials held an event last week to show their appreciation for firefighters and their families. The zoo says it wanted to honor their heroic efforts to stop the fire. Battalion Chief Wayne Bowen was presented a plaque and banner signed by zoo team members.
