The week is starting off with an unusually hot day in Central Virginia. The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in effect today from 10:00 to 8:00. Heat index values in Richmond and the surrounding counties are expected to be between 105 and 109. That could cause heat illness. The NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun and checking on relatives and neighbors.
Virginia's governor will get a chance to raise his national profile this week.Preview: Health officials in the area are getting the word out about a case of measles that has been found. Officials say a person with a confirmed case of measles visited an Arlington grocery store on July 1st and then multiple spots in the DC area the following day. The person is believed to have walked into a CVS pharmacy and a Labcorp site on Wisconsin Avenue NW on July 2nd. Anyone who thinks they may have been exposed is urged to check in with their doctor. Symptoms include a fever that can spike over 104 degrees, rashes, watery eyes and coughing.
Elon Musk claims the European Commission offered his social media company X a secret deal. Musk shared a post from Margrethe Vestager, the European Commissioner for Competition, that accused X of misleading users and blocking data for researchers. In his comments about the post, Musk said the commission offered what he called an illegal secret deal if *quote* "...we quietly censored speech without telling anyone, they would not fine us." He claims other social media platforms accepted the deal, while X did not.
