Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin is drawing comparisons between himself and Donald Trump. During a speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Youngkin referred to himself as "a Republican outsider businessman." He said he believes Virginia will "elect another Republican outsider businessman" as president. This comes as the Trump campaign believes it can flip Virginia red in 2024.
Access to high-quality healthcare in rural areas, such as southwest Virginia, is a growing concern being discussed by state and federal officials. Congressman Morgan Griffith visited the Bernard Health Care Center in Rocky Mount to address the challenges faced by rural communities, including limited access to specialists. WDBJ reports the lack of healthcare providers and transportation for Medicaid patients further exacerbates the issue. Griffith touted the importance of telemedicine, without addressing the broadband difficulties faced in rural areas. As well, Griffith suggested collaboration was necessary to improve healthcare access in rural areas.
