Election workers in Virginia's Fifth Congressional District will begin recounting ballots turned in during June's Republican primary today. Congressman Bob Good is paying for a recount of the ballots after losing to state Senator John McGuire by less than 400 votes. Workers in the 12-county district that includes Charlottesville, Lynchburg and Danville are expected to begin work early this morning as representatives of the Good and McGuire campaigns observe. The results will be driven to Goochland County, where a three-judge panel will review and determine the winner of the primary.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack declared 15 counties "primary natural disaster areas" earlier this week. Farmers in the counties affected can apply for assistance from the USDA's Farm Service Agency. The affected areas include Albemarle, Shenandoah, Rockingham, Loudoun and Warren counties and the city of Waynesboro.
Boeing is naming Kelly Ortberg as its new president and CEO. Ortberg, a former executive with aerospace company Rockwell Collins, will take the helm August 8th. The company is hoping Ortberg can help tum things around after a slew of safety issues have led to losses of trust and revenue.
