Three people are dead after a deadly train crash in Augusta County on Monday night. The Virginia State Police say a van was carrying four people from a solar panel work site in Stuarts Draft when it was hit by the train. The van rolled, ejecting three people. Two men and one woman were pronounced dead at the scene, while another woman survived with serious injuries. The state police are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
An animal shelter in southeast Virginia is temporarily closing its doors due to a canine virus outbreak. Operation College SAFE RETURN will be happening Friday and Saturday between Petersburg and Christiansburg. The agency says the special enforcement effort targets reckless driving along the corridor to make sure young people get to their campuses safely. The goal is to have no deadly crashes during the two-day period.
Eating an anti-inflammatory diet lowers the risk of dementia by over 30-percent. According to a new study published in the journal Jama Network Open, researchers found that eating whole grains, fruits and vegetables instead of processed meats and other ultra-processed foods like sugary cereals, soda, or fries, is linked to a lower risk of dementia. Results remained true among those with diseases who already have an elevated risk of developing dementia.
