A recall out today for candy sold at Virginia Walmarts and Targets has been upgraded to highest risk level. The Food and Drug Administration has issued a Class I recall for various candy products sold in 17 states due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall affects items from the Iowa-based Palmer Candy Company, including Munchy Medley and Classic Yogurt Pretzels. While there have been no reported illnesses or deaths linked to the recall, the FDA warns of the risk of serious injury or death. Consumers are advised to check the full list of recalled products and contact the Palmer Candy Company if they have purchased any affected items.

The Richmond SPCA is helping a shelter that's dealing with a contagious virus. The Petersburg Animal Shelter announced on Tuesday it'll close for two weeks because of a parvovirus outbreak. Parvo can be deadly, and Veterinarian Dr. David Molinas says it's usually seen in unvaccinated dogs less than six-months-old. The Richmond SPCA took in 14 cats and kittens from Petersburg while the shelter undergoes an extensive cleaning. Richmond SPCA's CEO tells 12 On Your Side they're just doing what any shelter would do at a time like this.
