A Herndon man is indicted in a 2023 double homicide. Court records show 39-year-old Brendan Banfield has been indicted for aggravated murder in connection with the deaths of his wife, Christine Banfield, and Joseph Ryan. Police found Ryan shot and Christine fatally stabbed in the Banfield home in February 2023. Banfield initially claimed Ryan had broken in and attacked his wife, but after a lengthy investigation, authorities charged Banfield with murder. The family's au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhaes, also faces second-degree murder charges for Ryan's death.
A Richmond teenager will spend almost a decade behind bars for shooting two other teens. Nineteen-year-old David Gutierrez was sentenced yesterday to nine years in prison for last year's shooting outside George Wythe High School. He was found guilty seven months ago on charges that include malicious wounding and possessing a firearm on school property.
