The victim's name hasn't been released. This comes after a 15-year-old boy was fatally shot at his bus stop last week. Newport News Mayor Phillip Jones said "these acts of senseless violence are unacceptable."
More information is being released about the six-year-old student who brought a gun to Orange Elementary School. Orange County Sheriff Jason Smith said at this time there's no reason to believe the child had any intention of using the weapon and did not understand the seriousness of bringing a gun to school. Also in the update, Smith said the gun was a 22 caliber "cowboy style" revolver. An instructional assistant found the gun in the child's backpack on Monday. So far, no charges have been filed in this ongoing investigation.
