State and local investigators are looking into the discovery of human remains on a property in Buckingham County. The county sheriff's office says the remains were found Saturday evening in the area of CG Woodson Road. The Virginia State Police assisted deputies in gathering evidence and are part of the ongoing investigation. The remains have been sent to the medical examiner's office in Richmond for further examination.

The Metro system wants to start using automatic switching for trains for the first time since a deadly 2009 crash. The system's general manager says Red Line trains could return to using automatic switching in December if the plan is approved by the Metrorail Safety Commission. Other lines would return to automatic switching early next year. Nine people were killed and dozens were injured when a moving train crashed into the back of another train in 2009. The crash was ultimately blamed on a track defect.  
 
 
Close to 200 chemicals linked to breast cancer are used in food packaging and plastic utensils. A new study shows that 76 breast carcinogens from food contact materials can be found in people. Researchers reported their findings in the journal "Frontiers in Toxicology." This comes as rates of early-onset breast cancer in younger women are increasing.
