Perdue Farms has agreed to pay $4 million in restitution after being accused of illegally hiring children to work in a processing facility on the Eastern Shore.Preview: A Fairfax County judge is refusing to overturn a guilty verdict against a former police officer. Wesley Shiflett was found guilty of reckless handling of a firearm in October. Investigators say Shiflett shot Timothy Johnson near Tysons Corner Center in 2023 after pursuing him as part of a shoplifting investigation. He was also charged with involuntary manslaughter but the jury found him not guilty on that charge. Shiflett is set to be sentenced late next month.
Former Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Vick will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame later this year. Vick was one of 18 players and four coaches selected for induction yesterday. Vick was redshirted during the 1998 season, then started for the Hokies in 1999 and 2000. He led the team to a 22-and-2 record across two seasons, led the nation in passing efficiency in 1999 and finished third and sixth in Heisman Trophy voting. Vick played 13 seasons in the NFL and was recently named the head football coach at Norfolk State.
