The Virginia State Police are conducting a death investigation in Rockbridge County. A deputy was conducting a traffic stop in Timber Ridge on Sunday when the suspect refused to leave his vehicle and drove off. A brief chase ended in a crash and deputies found the man slumped over in the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the chest. Forty-three-year-old Shane Lawhorn died before he could be taken to the hospital. The sheriff's office says Lawhorn apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
