Despite delays to the official start of the 2025 General Assembly session, lawmakers in Richmond are still considering several pre-filed bills.Preview: Democrats will retain their majorities in the General Assembly after wins in two special elections in northern Virginia. Democratic Delegate Kannan Srinivasan was declared the winner of the District 32 state Senate seat in unofficial results last night. He received over 60 percent of the vote to defeat Republican Tumay Harding. Democratic candidate JJ Singh also received more than 60 percent of the vote to beat Republican Ram Venkatachalam for the 26th District House seat previously held by Srinivasan.
The Virginia Beach City Council is giving a local festival more time to finalize its music lineup and begin selling tickets. The organizers of the Something in the Water festival were supposed to start selling tickets on December 31st but missed that deadline. The council discussed sending the organizers a breach of contract notice yesterday but shot that measure down in an 8-2 vote. The council has asked the city manager to remain in contact with festival organizers and give weekly updates. The festival is currently scheduled for April 26th and 27th.
