Governor Youngkin is defending a move to remove non-citizens from Virginia's voter rolls before the November election. The U.S. Department of Justice sued Virginia last week, saying the attempt to purge voters violates a federal law preventing such action within 90 days of an election. Youngkin says he's enforcing a law signed into law by Democratic Governor Tim Kaine in 2006 and called the lawsuit an attempt to attack the legitimacy of Virginia's elections. He also noted that those asked to verify their citizenship have 14 days to comply and can still re-register to vote before Election Day.

A VCU Health patient is in need of a life-saving gift. Johnny Boatman suffers from a rare disease called amyloidosis [[am-uh-lo-doe-sis]], and he needs a heart transplant to survive. The 59-year-old has been waiting in the hospital for over a month, and he just celebrated his birthday last week. He has been on the heart transplant list for over a hundred days, and his wife says he needs a miracle. The couple also wants others to be organ donors to save as many lives as possible. They started the Anyone with a Heart campaign to encourage organ donation. Boatman tells 8News this isn't about him but helping others as well.
