Chesapeake City Council has approved the construction of the tallest tower in Virginia. It will be part of a submarine cable manufacturing facility by South Korean company LS Greenlink. Doug Smith, President & CEO of the Hampton Roads Alliance, tells WAVY the $681 million dollar investment is expected to bring 330 high-paying jobs to the city.

The 660-foot tower will aid in the manufacturing process of submarine cables, with support from top elected officials in Virginia. The project, known as Project Genesis, is considered one of the largest manufacturing investments in the recent history of Hampton Roads. The facility is set to be completed by 2028.

The Department of Energy is putting nearly two-billion-dollars towards electrical transmission infrastructure. The agency today announced 38 projects including new power lines, improving power lines and protecting existing lines from wildfires. The money comes from the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law and will support around six-thousand jobs.
