Residents who oppose the project want the Board of Supervisors to hold a public meeting, but it has refused. Scientists are hopeful a new experimental "brain zapping" can help people overcome their addictions to drugs or alcohol. Doctors at West Virginia University have a special one-million-dollar helmet and goggles that people wear while being shown images of what they're struggling with. The helmet then pulses parts of the brain with ultrasound waves until the cravings are gone. So far, a reported three-quarters of the trial participates have remained substance-free for months. The equipment has also shown some promise with treating symptoms of depression.
