A woman is safe after being rescued from an overturned car in the Potomac River. Fairfax County first responders were called to Fort Hunt around 7 p.m. yesterday after the car was seen just off the George Washington Parkway near Waynewood Boulevard. Bystanders were able to get the woman out and she was taken to the hospital for treatment. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
A man wanted for a deadly May shooting in northwest DC has been arrested in Virginia. Sixteen-year-old Devon Sharp died a few days after he was shot in the 12-hundred block of V Street. Investigators announced yesterday that 26-year-old Tariq White of Raleigh, North Carolina had been arrested on a second-degree murder warrant. He is currently awaiting extradition.
The fight for change continues in Hanover County, according to local civil rights leaders yesterday at a forum hosted by the Hanover NAACP. The meeting was called after a racial slur was found on a Henrico County school bus at Hanover High School last week. Hanover NAACP President Patricia Hunter-Jordan says no one on the school board understands where people of color come from or what they feel. Interim Superintendent Lisa Pennycuff was invited to the meeting but did not attend. She tells CBS 6 we work diligently to do our part through swift disciplinary action that recognizes the seriousness of this reprehensible behavior.
