A man is dead after being shot by deputies in southwest Virginia. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to a home on Stanley Road in Christiansburg on Saturday after a report of a possible arson. Investigators say the suspect ran into the woods and threatened deputies with a chainsaw while also claiming to have a gun. Forty-three-year-old Joshua Gallimore was shot by deputies and was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting is currently under investigation by the Virginia State Police.

A walking tour of the Mayo Bridge was held yesterday. The bridge over the James River connects downtown Richmond and Manchester. Bike Walk RVA's Brantley Tyndall says the walking tour was a great opportunity to show how dangerous it feels to walk across the bridge alongside fast moving cars. Work on a new bridge is set to start in 2027. Tyndall tells 8News people want walkability, and if we get this bridge replacement wrong, we're gonna have a major setback for 100 years.
