Republican David Bowers is requesting a recount of the results in the Roanoke mayor's race. Bowers announced his desire for a recount yesterday, citing irregularities with the November 5th election. Democrat Joe Cobb won the election by 59 votes, but Bowers said that result has been accompanied by "suspicion and mistrust." The Roanoke City Circuit Court will hold a preliminary hearing to discuss Bowers' request and set the guidelines for the recount.
Richmond is, once again, getting high marks for its inclusivity. The Human Rights Campaign released its annual Municipal Equality Index yesterday. For the fourth year in a row, Richmond got a perfect 100 score for LGBTQ-plus rights. The HRC Foundation says a record-breaking 130 cities scored a 100 on the index this year.
