Parents doubt the competency of the school board in Fairfax County after a scandal at Hayfield High School, where six football coaches exposed misconduct that had been overlooked by public school leadership. Despite a lengthy internal investigation and review by an outside lawyer that found no evidence of wrongdoing, journalists uncovered a timeline of misconduct. The Fairfax Times reports the failure of leadership at all levels of FCPS was brought to light, with concerns raised about the superintendent's involvement. A unanimous School Board vote for an independent investigation was prompted by public outcry, with many calling for an external investigation led by the Virginia Attorney General to ensure accountability and transparency.
