There's a new campaign in Prince William County aimed at encouraging folks not to give money to panhandlers. Instead, the Board of Supervisors this week launched the Give Where it Counts effort, which calls on people to instead donate money to non-profits that serve homeless folks. The panel says those organizations can provide way more support to people in need with those donations than what one person can do on their own. A list of reputable groups is posted on the county's website.

The University of Virginia football team is providing a big boost to a local food bank thanks to its partnership with Kroger. The team dropped by the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Charlottesville yesterday to help with the delivery of 500 turkeys. The donation is part of the Touchdowns for Turkeys program sponsored by Kroger, which gives ten turkeys for every touchdown scored by UVA this season.

Democrats on the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic have their own response to the Republican-led panel's final report. That report concluded the COVID-19 pandemic most likely originated from a lab leak in China. It also accused former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci of trying to suppress information. The Democrats retorted, accusing Republicans of wasting two years on political stunts instead of preparing for another pandemic. The response did acknowledge that a lab leak was one of a few plausible origins of the pandemic.
