Hanover County is out with its assessment of what happened in the Richmond water crisis.Preview: The Virginia House must approve an amendment made by the Senate to add more regulation to data centers. Virginia is considered the data center capital of the world and the legislation would mean companies seeking to build data centers in the commonwealth will also need additional approval from the locality they plan to build in. The bill requires applicants to submit a sound profile of the data center if it is near residential areas or schools. WRIC reports it also mandates an investigation into the potential effects of the data center on water, agriculture, parks, historic sites, and the surrounding land. Existing data centers in Virginia with approved rezoning will not be affected by the new regulations.
Bus drivers are being credited with helping force Richmond Public Schools officials to call a snow day. Schools were closed yesterday after officials initially announced a two-hour delay. District officials say the change was made due to power outages and a lack of school bus drivers. Over 70 drivers called in sick. One driver says they look at the kids they transport as their own children, so to put them in danger would be insane. Parents are grateful. One tells 8News if the bus drivers didn't band together, it didn't seem as though the district was going to close.
