Health officials at the University of Virginia say a student has been diagnosed with a serious bacterial infection. The student tested positive for meningitis on Sunday. UVA is working with the regional health department to track down anyone who may have been in close contact with the affected student. They are also working to determine what strain of meningitis the patient has contracted.

A new historic marker has been unveiled at Court Square in Charlottesville, recognizing the sales of enslaved people in the area from 1762 to 1865. The marker was approved in March 2024 and was unveiled on March 3, which is known as Liberation and Freedom Day in Charlottesville. 29 News reports the marker pays homage to the enslaved individuals who were bought and sold in the city. The unveiling event brought the community together to reflect on the past and look towards the future, with hopes of inspiring future generations.
