Two members of a local election board are asking the state to remove a third member for allegedly sharing election machine data. Election officials in Charles City County say Maria Kinney shared passwords for election equipment with the chair of the county Republican Party during an accuracy test in January. They asked the Virginia State Board of Elections to remove Kinney from her position earlier this month. The state board announced yesterday that it needs more information before deciding Kinney's status.

Small businesses in Alexandria can now apply for a grant through the Latino Economic Development Center. The grants are meant to help businesses that have trouble accessing essential resources maintain their current operations or help with expansion. Grants of up to seven-thousand dollars are available through the program. Applications will be accepted through June 18th.
Consumer confidence is slightly higher after three straight months of decline. The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index increased nearly three points in May. Many consumers cited concerns about prices for food and groceries. The survey noted little change in purchasing plans for homes which remain at their lowest level since 2012. Meanwhile, buying plans for autos and big-ticket appliances rose slightly.
