Alleghany Highlands Public Schools are updating their textbooks this fall to meet the Virginia Standards of Learning expectations. Textbooks were purchased for Career-Technical Education, Elementary Science and History, Middle School History, and High School Science. The principal at Jackson River Technical Center Josh Craft tells WDBJ these new resources are important because Career-Technical Education is often overlooked. Teacher input was crucial in the textbook selection process to ensure materials align with best practices in education. The school division plans to adopt new textbooks in Mathematics for the 2025-2026 school year.
The FDA has authorized the first at-home, over-the-counter syphilis test. On Friday, the FDA granted authorization to a test that detects syphilis antibodies in human blood. The new test, called First To Know, helps identify past or current infection, with results available in about 15 minutes.
