The Virginia Department of Health has the fourth highest percentage of nursing homes overdue for inspection in the nation. Steve Lambert found "horrifying" conditions when he visited his brother Winfred at a nursing home in Henrico County last December.Preview: Lambert is a former associate director with the state's Social Services licensing division and he filed two complaints with the state. He tells CBS6 his brother died in March. Eight months after his first complaint, state employees began investigating. VDH's Kim Beazley blames being short staffed. Both VDH and the nursing home declined an interview.
A hiker is recovering after jumping from a Shenandoah Valley cliff into the Saint Mary's River. First responders were called to an area along the Saint Mary's Trail on Saturday after the hiker jumped and seriously injured her back. A Virginia State Police Med Flight helicopter flew the woman to the University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment. The hiker's name and the extent of her injuries have not been announced.
A Chesterfield County official is impressed with the turnout of a recent event for Latino residents. The county's first Cafe Con La Comunidad was held last night at the Beulah Rec Center. Over a hundred people showed up to find out about county services. Board of Supervisors Chair Jim Holland says it went wonderfully, and the questions residents asked were excellent. The feedback from residents was positive, too. One man tells 12 On Your Side it was great, and he would like to see this event happen again.
Vice President Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz have agreed to sit down with CNN for their first joint interview. The pair will be interviewed by CNN and it will air at 9 p.m. Eastern on Thursday. This interview will be the first time Harris has sat down with a journalist since announcing her bid for election.
